As if Daylight Savings wasn't annoying enough...

So last night Tasha and I were changing the clocks for daylight savings. I have never particularly cared for daylight savings and changing all the clocks (we have a bunch) just adds to it.  One particular clock is one of Tasha's favorites.  It has a large decorative frame and a smaller clock in the center.  Well, the hands of the clock fell off when I took it off the wall.  The screw holding them in place had come loose.  So we had to take the back off and fix that along with changing the time.  The actual clock fits pretty tight in the frame, but when we tried to put it back it wouldn't fit.  There was one particular spot where the clock was a full 1/4 inch off and it was driving me nuts! We tried and tried. Tasha kept saying "I know it's tight but I've never had this much trouble with it before. If it fit before why wont it fit now?" We had butter knives prying the edge of the frame out while we tried forcing or hammering it back into place. Nothing worked. Tasha finally said "Lets just put it in however we can get it to fit and we'll just hang it crooked because it's round.  As long as 12 is straight up it won't matter right?" That didn't work either. It was obvious it wasn't straight. Through this whole process I kept saying "Here is 12 o'clock so it has to go straight up." Because of the way the frame is made we couldn't bend it out to fit the clock.  So I decided to shave the clock down so it would fit.  We finally get it to fit, we pick it up to hang it again only to find that we had arranged the clock so that 8 o'clock was in the 12 position.  All I could do was shake my head. We had been fighting this whole battle for 20 min all because it had roman numeral numbers and we didn't pay close enough attention to the fact that we were working everything around the 8 instead of the 12. Once we put the 12 straight up it fit perfectly, go figure. It's amazing how stupidly frustrating some things can be.

More Notes from the Cupboard

Tasha is so great about recording so many of the funny things the kids do and say.  I read old posts and stories and wonder how I would ever survive without her.  She is amazing.  Here are some more of those little happenings:

Tasha says to McKay:  Go put your pants on before I spank your bare bottom!
McKay replies: It's not a bare bottom, it's just a bum.  And my feet are bare, just bare feet.

Gensie often refers to Avonlea as a 'he'.  She doesn't know how to use he or she correctly yet.  So with that said Tasha was nursing Avonlea, and she was taking her dear, sweet time:
Tasha says to Avonlea:  Come on slow boat to China, finish your food!
Gensie hears that and says:  He not China!  He Ah-buh-ye! (her version of Avonlea)

The other day I (Quinn) was kneeling down to change Lele's diaper.  Nearly everytime I do that McKay or Gensie, or both, decide it is a prime time to climb up my back.  Here is a conversation that came from one of those times:
McKay:  Hold on Avonlea!  I'm just climbing up my Dad's back so you can see me.
Then, as he is peeking over my shoulder and looking down at Lele:
McKay:  Hi Avonlea!  Here's your favorite guy who you like!
As a side note, she really does love her brother.  She loves Gensie too, but the interaction between McKay and Lele is just different, mostly because of age I am sure.

Any time I do not work the next day I make sure to tell the kids when I am putting them in their beds for the night.  I go to work early enough in the mornings that I don't see them unless they get up too early.  The phrase I always use is, "Guess what?  I do not work tomorrow!  So when you wake up in the morning you can come find me and we can play!"  It always brings a hug and excitement from McKay who says something like, "Oh, that makes me so happy!"  The other night I had already told him that I didn't work the next day, and after I had tucked him in and was leaving the room he says, "I just love the days when you do not work tomorrow!  Doesn't it make you so happy that your favorite boy is here when you wake up?!"  It sure does!

Our latest Family Home Evening: Samuel the Lamanite

We love acting out different stories from the Book of Mormon for FHE, so this week was Samuel the Lamanite  (also known as Salmon da Yamanite).

McKay learned the primary song "Latter-day Prophets" a while ago, but we have been singing it a lot again lately.  Gensie has really picked up on it and we think it's the cutest thing ever.  I think we have filmed her 15 times already.  She does skip a few of the prophets still, but if you listen close you can understand who she is trying to say.  And if she forgets in the middle of singing she will stop, look at us with a questioning look and say, "How doze (goes)?".  It is so darling!

Bedroom set deals

In April 2012 I found this furniture on craigslist. I was looking for this style so I was so glad to find it. It came with a long dresser and mirror (which I'm not using because I liked my previous one more) two night stands, chest of drawers and a lingerie chest. We paid $300 for it. At the time I remember Quinn asking me "Are you sure this is what you want?" I assured him we could get our money back by reselling it if I changed my mind.We used it for a year and a half and I really liked it. Then just before Christmas I told Quinn I was kind of interested in selling it and getting something different. He was surprised to hear that but I said lets just post it and see if we get any takers. We don't need to be in a hurry. We just sold the set for $800 dollars. I know we are that good haha! We bought a new dresser with a mirror and 2 night stands. They are black and we quite like them. We only paid $160 for that set. I also found a head board and foot board that I really liked so we painted it black and now it's in our room. So now I have the rest of my $800 tucked away waiting for me to find my little girls a darling little bedroom set. See Robyn, buying second hand pays off.

This is the head board set we painted.

This is our new dresser and night stands. I need to find a chest of drawers to match it. I'm still looking. I've found a few but they either sold too soon or they were asking too much. Quinn likes our new furniture more. He feels it's a little more manly.
